Why does concrete crack?

All concrete cracks. It needs to crack because it contracts during the hardening, drying, and curing process, and the bond between the cement paste and the aggregates is not strong enough to withstand that stress. Please see our tips page on ways to reduce cracks. Before repairing any concrete cracking, determine the source of the cracking and remedy that first. Epoxy grout is an excellent crack repair agent.

What is Air-entrainment?

All exterior concrete in our area must be air-entrained. Simply put, air-entrainment puts billions of microscopic bubbles in the concrete which serve as relief valves when water in the concrete freezes.

What does curing do for concrete?

Curing is ensuring that the concrete has enough moisture and the proper temperature to chemically react to bring your concrete to full strength. Be sure that curing is a part of the procedure done by your contractor. Curing is one of the final, but vital steps to construct a quality concrete driveway. If a driveway is not cured, you may end up with only 50% of the desired strength at the surface, which may not be strong enough to last through the winter. There are several methods of curing. The most common is the application of a compound sprayed onto the surface of the concrete immediately after finishing that prevents the concrete from drying prematurely.

What awards has Neeck Concrete received?

Neeck Concrete won the 2001 Concrete Design Award from the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association in the Industrial division for the Weather Shield Project in Park Falls, Wisconsin. In 2005 Neeck Concrete received recognition from the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association Operations, Environmental & Safety Committee for In Plant Safety Performance for no reportable injuries. Also in 2005 Rusty Wirsing, foreman of our wash plant, received the Gold Award for remaining accident free for 10 years at our pit.

How do I figure how much concrete I need?

Take the length x width x depth / by 27 = cubic yard. Example: 24' x 24' x 4" slab: 24 x 24 x .33 / 27 = 7.04 = 7.25 cubic yards (and then add a quarter yard to make sure you have enough). Footings and walls should be in lineal feet. Using the same measurements above for a footing that is 8" x 1'there would be 96 lineal feet. The equation would now be 96 x .67 (8") x 1 / 27 = 2.38 = 2.5 cubic yards (again, add another 1/4 yard to make sure you have enough). Make sure that grade is exact, because even a 1/2" difference over a large area can cause a shortage of concrete.

Is financing available for concrete projects?

Area banks, savings and loans, and credit unions have many financing options for home improvements. Their loan officers will be happy to help you compare interest rates, payment options, and tax advantages and will work with you to figure out the best option for your financial situation. The most likely financing options will include cash-out refinancing, home-equity credit lines, second mortgages, and home improvement loans.

What payment options are available?

Payment is due at the time of delivery (C.O.D), unless you have an account set up with Neeck Concrete Products LLC. C.O.D payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. Credit cards need to be verified by the office before Neeck Concrete Products LLC will ship your order.

What is a minimum load charge?

For loads of less than five (5) yards, there are minimum load charges, which vary, depending on quantity of concrete ordered. The dispatcher will provide minimum load charge cost information, based on your specific project situation.
